GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE DID NOT CONSULT ME- ALAAFIN OF OYO

PRESS RELEASE (15/1/ 2026). The attention of the Alaafin's Palace has been drawn to a statement credited to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde that he consulted with the three traditional rulers in the State, the Alaafin, the Olubadan and the Soun of Ogbomoso on the rotational Chairmanship of the State Council of Obas and  Chiefs. The Palace hereby wants to state clearly that there was no time that His Imperial Majesty, the Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Engineer Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, held any meeting with either the State Governor or any of the two traditional rulers mentioned above.  Also the Alaafin did not tell the Governor or make a categorical statement on his endorsement of rotational Chairmanship among the the three traditional rulers in the State.  The position of the Alaafin and the Entire Oyo Community on the general  issue of the,State, Council of Obas,and Chiefs has been enunciated in a Memo delivered to His Excellency by the Oyo Council of Elders.   ...

ALAAFIN OF OYO SOUNDS ALARM OVER OLOKA MASSACRE — DEMANDS MILITARY BASE AT OTEFON, FULL INVESTIGATION INTO OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK KILLINGS

 PRESS RELEASE   His Imperial Majesty IKU BABA YEYE, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, The Alaafin of Oyo — Keeper of the Throne, Shield of the Yoruba, today issued a thunderous condemnation of the brutal attack on Oloka village and the killing of civilians and rangers within Old Oyo National Park, declaring it an assault on Yoruba sovereignty and ancestral heritage and also sympathize with the families of the forest guards who lost their lives. In a solemn proclamation read at the imperial Court of Oyo, the Alaafin stated: “The recent brutal killings inside Old Oyo National Park — especially the massacre at Oloko — is not merely a ‘security breach.’ It is a dagger plunged into the heart of our ancestral empire. Our sacred forests, our game reserves, our historic grounds — where our kings once hunted with spears and drums — are now being turned into slaughter yards by armed marauders. Mass Decamping Hits PDP in Oyo

Written by Ibrahim Adelakun. As the elections of 2027 is drawing near, there are alignment and realignments of party members. Political pundits have opine that this does not seem to be the best of times seeing that Oyo State happened to be the state that was to host the national convention of the PDP and currently there are court rulings for and against the hosting of the convention. Be it as it may, some party faithfuls are already taking the exit door into other parties.  In Oyo metropolis many staunch and foundational members of the ruling party in Oyo have decided to dump their party and move to the All Progressive Congress as a result of diplomatic moves of Prince Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi a move which started last week during the meeting of the APC where loyalists of late Prince Adebayo Adeyemi who came second losing by a narrow margin decided to dump the ruling party in Oyo State. Many would have thought that the decamping will end with the Oyo East/West PDP members who decamped...

Alaafin of Oyo Graced The Coronation of Olubadan

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, Iku Baba Yeye, The Paramount Custodian of Yoruba Culture and Tradition was amongst the dignitaries that graced the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Sen. Rashidi Ladoja, Arusa I, who was a former governor of Oyo State.  The occasion had the likes of the Sultan of Sokoto in attendance and many present and ex-governors were at the event hosted by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
