The Yorubas have their own calendar year and every new year is celebrated with the offering of new yam to Sango.
Sango is the main deity of all Yorubaland. Sango is the deified Alaafin that is worshipped in over 42 countries of the world. At every World Sango Festival, after Ogun Ajobo, in the night Yoruba people and Sango devotees gather at Koso to observe the cross over into the new Yoruba year.
