Prince Yinka Afonja, the MD/CEO of Acemall with branches in many states of the southwest of Nigeria at the Old Bodija branch of Acemall, opposite Housing Corporation of Oyo State while responding to questions from our correspondent on the importance of the times we are in and his goodwill message to Nigerians as Christians the world over mark the Ash Wednesday which always heralds the 40days fasting period. He spoke with our correspondent saying, "fasting is a time of consecration to God our maker a exemplified by the example of the christian faith, the lord Jesus Christ himself. He showed this by example when he fasted for 40days while he was here with us and he also emphasized the need for dedication of lives to God in all areas. He thought us many things and those things have become the fulcrum of the christian faith, part of which is prayer and fasting a very pivotal means of communication and dedication to our creator."
In the light of the exemplary life of Jesus Christ and the times we are in as a country as we go to the polls to elect our leaders, it is pertinent as a nation for us to ask God for divine guidance of God in the selection of our leaders as we go to the polls this Saturday. It is important that we eschew violence, conduct ourselves in a comely and orderly manner as electorates as we have had a peaceful campaign season, the elections should not be anything less other than been peaceful. It is also important that the people should go all out and exercise their civic responsibilities as good citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because this only happens once in every four years.
While admonishing the politicians to conduct themselves in a very civil manner as representatives of the people in whom the people reposed great confidence as they vote for them at the polls and if anyone feels that the results declared at the polls does not align with their aspirations, they should go to courts of competent jurisdiction to present their cases for them to obtain justice. There is no reason for recourse to violence before or after the elections because nothing significant or worthwhile is ever achieved by violence other than wanton destruction of lives and properties.
Finally to the good people of Nigeria, we all know we are going through times that are actually challenging us all and our relentlessness of which we have been conducting ourselves with patience and hope. In this season, the greatest message is that "there is always light at the end of the tunnel and this one too shall pass." We must be strong and resolute to see this through and our faith in God though it's on trial, we must hold fast to God and not lose hope so that we all will eat the good of the land. On this note, he asked all Nigerians to be their brother's keeper as they reach out to all who are not as privileged as they are because "it is more blessed to give than to recieve" according to the scriptures.
