WHO WILL OYO ALAAFIN VOTE TO REPRESENT THEM IN ABUJA IN 2023?

Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi (MHR)

Hon. Kamil Akinlabi (Former MHR)

The two politicians whose pictures are above are two very familiar contestants for the same electoral position of the Green Chamber, of the national assembly. They both are the two main gladiators in the political circuit of Oyo Federal Constituency and incidentally they are both from the same Atiba local government.

Without much ado, Hon (Prince) Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi and Hon. Kamil Akinlabi both have had a lot of things in common if we look at their pedigree in the past. The at the onset were members of the same party back in the days of the PDP. Whilst Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi was the Atiba local government Chairman and Hon Kamil Akinlabi was the honorable representing Oyo Federal Constituency at the green chamber of the national assembly for the second term.

The duo met during the contest for the ticket of the House of Representatives ticket in 2015 when Hon. Kamil Akinlabi was seeking a third term in the green chamber and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi was seeking his first term. At the end of the day, the ticket for the party was won by Prince Akeem Adeyemi who later went to win the election defeating the incumbent honorable Kamil Akinlabi in the 2015 election under the APC which was the party that the two belonged after there was a decamping to the All Progressive Congress. Though Hon. Kamil Akinlabi left the party and eventually contested under the Labour party where he lost to the young prince Akeem Adeyemi.

Before the 2019 elections, Hon. Kamil Akinlabi had returned to the APC party and he subsequently contested the party ticket an election which he lost to the incumbent which was Prince Akeem Adeyemi. Hon. Kamil Akinlabi eventually left the ruling party for the Action Democratic Party where he contested and he came a distance third in the election.

Now the die is cast as the two are up again for third term contest at the polls. What will the election look like and what will the results be? Only time will tell who will be winning the 2023 house of representatives election for Oyo Federal Constituency.

NB: Leave your comments and thoughts on the candidates.

THE SECURITY ALERT IN OYO

Engr. Seyi Makinde Executive Governor of Oyo State  Written by Oladotun Oladele In Nigeria of today, security is no longer the exclusive responsibility of our security agencies given the various incidencies that have taken place in our dear country and our neighboring states. The patrol of the Nigeria police and all synergized security agencies in Oyo with their patrol in the hinterlands is a wake up call and a very much welcomed development in Oyo most especially from the events of countless lives and properties that have been lost due to the attacks by armed bandits who have terrorised some villages in Kwara State before the deployment of the detachment of the military to quell the bandit incursions. In Yoruba parlance, the proverb that says "the death that is killing someone very close to one is definitely sending one a strong message". There is need for proactiveness in checkmating the menace of the nefarious activities of these hoodlums and security is actually local. Fr...

Mass Decamping Hits PDP in Oyo

Written by Ibrahim Adelakun. As the elections of 2027 is drawing near, there are alignment and realignments of party members. Political pundits have opine that this does not seem to be the best of times seeing that Oyo State happened to be the state that was to host the national convention of the PDP and currently there are court rulings for and against the hosting of the convention. Be it as it may, some party faithfuls are already taking the exit door into other parties.  In Oyo metropolis many staunch and foundational members of the ruling party in Oyo have decided to dump their party and move to the All Progressive Congress as a result of diplomatic moves of Prince Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi a move which started last week during the meeting of the APC where loyalists of late Prince Adebayo Adeyemi who came second losing by a narrow margin decided to dump the ruling party in Oyo State. Many would have thought that the decamping will end with the Oyo East/West PDP members who decamped...

THE POWERS OF BABA IYAJI IN DETERMINING WHO BECOMES THE NEXT ALAAFIN OF OYO

Alaafin Oba Adeyemi III  Written by Oladotun Oladele (Media Director to the Alaafin 08037250845) History has it that separation of powers started with the Oyos though it was not written. The principle of separation of powers was the cabinet system of the Alaafin to prevent abuses and arrogation of power. The Alaafin was the President but there were due process and established structures in Oyo. Nothing was ever left in abeyance because for every need there was an established process. When the British came, they acknowledged that there was an already established system of governance and it dated back to the 1500. In Oyo Alaafin, there is a popular song and the song goes thus “N’Iyaji, Niyaji, gbogbo Omoba, niyaji ni ile (literal translation: At Iyaji, at Iyaji all the children of the king, Iyaji is home). It is no longer news that the most revered stool of the Yorubas which is the ancient throne of the Alaafin of Oyo, the greatest traditional ruler in Yorubaland who founded the only...
